New Chief Executive for Papworth Hospital

Today (Monday 14 November) Stephen Posey takes up his role as Chief Executive at Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Cambridgeshire.

Stephen joins the hospital from East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, where he was Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategy.

“It is a privilege to be Chief Executive of Papworth Hospital, internationally recognised for the quality of the services it provides and a known and successful innovator. I am looking forward to meeting staff, patients and those connected with the hospital so I can understand their experience of working at and using the services of Papworth Hospital.” said Stephen

Stephen joins the hospital ahead of a historic move to a new hospital site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in 2018.

Trust Chairman, Professor John Wallwork CBE said: “I am confident that Stephen will bring the talent, energy and vision needed to ensure that our already very successful organisation is able to thrive in our new location on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus; whilst at the same time ensuring that the care, innovation and excellence delivered by our valued staff is maintained and strengthened.

“Papworth has a longstanding reputation for excellence and innovation, both in the UK and internationally, and with Stephen’s leadership we will continue to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care and treatment underpinned by our commitment to provide tomorrow’s medicine today, not today’s medicine tomorrow.”

Stephen replaces Mr Stephen Bridge, who retired from his post as Chief Executive at the end of March, having served 28 years at Papworth.

He concluded “The hospital is on an exciting journey as it prepares for the move to the new hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in 2018 and an area of focus for me from day one is to ensure this important transition delivers benefits for our patients and the communities we serve, helps us to progress important research and development and secures a vibrant future for Papworth.”
