The League of European Research Universities (LERU) has published a briefing paper exploring the mission of Academic Health Centres in research-intensive settings in Europe and presenting a number of case studies.
The paper is authored by four international experts on AHSCs including the Chief Operating Officer of Cambridge University Health Partners, Stephen Davies and the Cambridge University Health Partners International Advisor, Louise Gunning-Schepers.
The paper suggests that Academic Health Science Centres have a key role in the development of the healthcare of the future, leveraging on basic science, clinical excellence and large patient populations organised in structured forms in which physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals and researchers work together in a multidisciplinary setting.
The paper uses a number of international case studies including a focus on the work and structure of CUHP. The paper outlines how the partnership is an example of the intermediary model and points to achievements including the successful Health Innovation and Education Cluster (HIEC) bid and the leadership role CUHP plays in marketing the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The full report is available on the LERU website.
