CBC Menopause Cafe Drop-In (The Deakin Centre)

We are celebrating World Menopause Day with four CBC Menopause Cafes on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus on 18th and 19th October.

This particular Menopause Cafe is taking place on the ground floor of the Deakin Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, adjacent to Car Park 1.

Please pre-book to ensure we have enough cake!

As free tea, coffee, and cake will be provided, we need you to register to ensure we have enough! The groups are not cliquey and are very welcoming, so do please venture along either alone or with friends/colleagues. And do please spread the word to anyone living or working locally!

World Menopause Day was established in 1984 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Menopause Society (IMS) with the intention of spreading awareness about this condition that affects women as they age.

A Menopause Café, aimed at breaking down the taboo around menopause, increasing awareness of the impact of the menopause on those experiencing it, their family, friends and their colleagues, and reflecting on the ‘third stage of life’.

Following the World’s first Menopause Café, held in Perth, Scotland in 2017, many pop-up Menopause Cafes have been organised worldwide, including in workplaces. For more information, please visit: http://www.menopausecafe.net/

Menopause Cafes are offered in accordance with certain principles, which are:

• With no intention of leading participants to any conclusion, product or course of action eg no speakers or businesses peddling their wares

• In an accessible, respectful and confidential space

• Open to all, regardless of gender or age

• Alongside free refreshments!

Did you know that menopausal women are the fastest-growing population at work? Or that around 8 out of 10 menopausal women are in work? Whilst some women sail through menopause, 3 out of 4 experience symptoms and as many as 1 in 4 have serious symptoms. However, around half have never consulted a healthcare professional about their menopause. Research also shows that the majority of women are unwilling to discuss menopause related health problems with their line managers, or ask for any support they may need.

That’s why we’re encouraging people to pop along to listen to others and allow those who wish, to share their experience about the menopause in an informal, confidential setting. You could be experiencing menopause yourself, be a brother, daughter, husband or wife, supporting a family member, a colleague who wants to know how they can be supportive in the workplace… The menopause café is open for all, regardless of gender, experience or age. There will not be a set agenda and there is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action.

Let’s get the conversation going….

This event is part of the ‘CBC Wellness Campaign’ – a series of webinars and events supporting the 21,000+ people who work on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, many of whom are at the forefront of the changing face of healthcare. However, these events are also for anyone looking for additional support: you don't have to work here and there is no charge to attend.
